Factions of the Imperium
132-1116: The Emperor Strephon, Empress Iolanthe and the Grand Princess Iphegenia were assassinated by Dulinor, Archduke of Ilelish. An Aslan ambassador, Yerlyaruiwo, was also killed during this assassination as he tried to defend the Grand Princess. That same day, a second assassin was killed in an attempt on the twin sons of the Emperor. The older twin, Varian, was killed in the attempt along with a female companion and a bodyguard. The younger twin, Lucan, survived. Reportedly, a second assassin escaped the twin brother’s chambers and is now at large – he was an Imperial Navy Intelligence Officer named Windhook.
1117: The First clashes of the Rebellion occur with clashes between Dulinor’s Fleets and Lucan’s Fleets. Margaret establishes her claim to the throne stripping away six crucial fleets from Lucan and creating a stronghold centered in the Delphi sector. Lucan’s decision to strip fleets from the frontier sectors of Lishun, Corridor, and Old Expanses in order to fight Dulinor allows the Solmani to overwhelm Old Expanses and the Vargr to raid Corridor and Lishun with little resistance. Announcements are made that Strephon is alive and located at the Imperial Vacation palace in Gushemege. He claims that Dulinor assassinated his body-double. Both Dulinor and Lucan take extensive steps to suppress news of Strephon’s survival. Archduke Norris of Deneb declares his loyalty to the Imperium but not to any particular faction. Regardless he is too busy fending off incursion of the Aslan, Vargr and Zhodani to provide an assistance to anyone else.
302-117: Domain of Antares declares independence and becomes the League of Antares
1118: Lucan searches for more fleets to send into battle against Dulinor. His demand for fleets from Vland, Antares and Daibei force each of them to declare independence from the Imperium. Vland must fend off the Vargr, Antares forges an alliance with the Julian Protectorate and Daibei must defend itself from Solmani Federation.
012-1118: League of Antares announces it has joined the Julian Protectorate as one of its member confederations.
324-1118: The Day Windhook slipped through the clutches of the Imperial Navy.
1126: Luken and Dulinor’s forces have remained relatively static. Each has had major victories over the years and also losses. Both Vland and Deneb have become dangerous frontiers with the encroachment of the Vargr. Margaret maintains a defensive posture too weak to take on Lucan’s forces directly. Daibei has entered a reluctant alliance with the Aslan in order to keep the Solmani at Bay. Anares remains peaceful and prosperous under the Julian Protectorate.
Lucan: technically the legitimate hear to the throne. Holds the reins of power and controls the existing Imperial Bureaucracy.
Margaret: Shares the same Great Grandfather as Emperor Strephon. She is his first cousin once removed. Margaret is a popular alternative to Lucan supported by a large fraction of nobility.
Dulinor: Archduke of the Ilelish Domain. Claims the throne by right of assassination.
Antares: Antares is a Vargr dominated Sector which has enjoyed a long and peaceful relationship with humanity under the Third Emperium. Brzk, the Archduke of Antares proposed himself as a potential candidate to the throne but finds anti-Vargr prejudices rampant. When Lucan demands his fleet join him in the fight against Dulinor, Brzk looks to protect his domain elsewhere.
Daibei: Stood fast against mounting Solomani Invasions after Strephon’s assassinations and turned them back. When Lucan demanded Daibei’s fleets transferred to fight Dulinor, Horvath, senior duke of the Daibei sector assembled the council of nobles and establish an independent and neutral region of Daibei.
Vland: When Vland’s fleets were ordered withdrawn, Vland balked and declared its independence. The sector is now governed by Ziru Sirka – the reestablished Vilani Empire.
Strephon: A man claiming to be the Emperor Strephon surfaced in Gushemege sector and exerts a campaign to exert his rule throughout the former Imperium.
Norris: Archduke of Deneb holds the frontier sectors in trust for the ultimate winner of the rebellion. In the interim he fights a delaying action against Aslan, Vargr and Zhodani.
Aslan: Landless Aslan ihatei in search of territory have sensed weakness in the decaying Imperium and are invading imperial border regions.
Vargr: governments and corsairs alike were held out of Imperial territory only by continuous fleet patrols. When the fleets were withdrawn by Lucan, the Vargr found it easy to cross the border to plunder and loot.
Zhodani: Intentions unknown.
Solomani: Large scale fleet movement crossed into Imperial space in order to reclaim territories lost to the Imperium more than a century before as soon as word of the assassination reached them.
